| Resumen: | This work focuses on two fundamental and relevant questions: a) are there any differences in the regional determinants of entry and exit between developed and developing economies?; b) are there any differences in the regional determinants of entry and exit between core and peripheral regions within a single country? To address these issues, we take as a starting point a set of determinants that are generally found to be statistically significant in regional entry and exit studies using data from developed countries (e.g., demand, education, density and industrial structure). Then, we add some factors that, while potentially important in developing countries, are never considered by studies on developed countries. This is the case, for example, of the size of the informal economy, the extent of poverty or the usage of idle capacity after an economic crisis. Finally, we explore the existing of a core-periphery pattern, that is, we test whether the same factors affect entry and exit in a similar way in central and peripheral provinces. |

| Resumen: | This paper analyses the regional determinants of exit in Argentina. We find evidence of a dynamic revolving door by which past entrants increase current exits, particularly in the peripheral regions. In the central regions, current and past incumbents cause an analogous displacement effect. Also, exit shows a U-shaped relationship with respect to the informal economy, although the positive effect is weaker in the central regions. These findings point to the existence of a core-periphery structure in the spatial distribution of exits. |

| Resumen: | El presente artículo recoge una radiografía del entrepreneurship en España, durante el período 1999-2002. Para ello, se analiza la posición que nuestro país ocupa respecto a otros europeos en materia de entrepreneurship, mediante la observación de tres variables: nacimientos, muertes y mantenimiento de empresas en el mercado. A continuación se analiza la actuación de la creación de empresas en España durante el período analizado. Asimismo, a través de un análisis de conglomerados, se hace un estudio detallado por comunidades autónomas, el que, además de permitir hacer comparaciones, debe facilitar, desde un enfoque proactivo, tomar decisiones adecuadas. |
